  1. Gary Ambrose Says:

    Michael … BINGO.

Massive, Immediate Action … and look where I end up on the list of comments. Right up at the top.

    Coincidence?

Highly unlikely. You call it the Permanewb … I call it the “Professional Newbie”. ( Thanks for not swiping my term btw ;) )

You want to get somewhere? Take action, get to an offline event, stop talking about it, and just do it. My offline seminar presentation is typically 20 minutes on just what you said in this report. It always strikes accord with the audience, yet sadly, it also strikes accord with many people the second, third, and fourth times they see it.

But for some … it’s gold, just like this report.

    Thanks,

  2. Graham Jones - Internet Psychologist Says:

At first glance this report provides some excellent and down to earth advice. If readers learn nothing else other than to specialise in a narrow niche, they will have done very well. You will of course learn much more from this report since it provides some psychological insights to success in all areas of life, not just internet marketing. Well worth reading.

  3. MrGuuh Says:

Excellent Article, Mr Cheney.. i guess i am keeping within the 2 rules of the country club by speaking about it here rite?

I guess i am more in the grey area between the Others and the Outer Circle.. i have been specialising in niches outside the money making materials and is gradually moving into the outer circle n looking for JV partners for my next site.

Anyway good article u have there.. rather insightful and learned more from it already

A “Great” report Michael. Well worth reading.

    Brilliant report and most useful.

  6. Mark Sandquist Says:

    Hi Michael,

    Great job on this report.

You have hit the nail right on the head, on a number of “key” points that can make or break an online business.

I especially like how you illustrate the paradox of the “myth” of the “Old Boys” club mentality. It’s true! No one wants to keep people out… they just require one gets off of one’s tush and, takes the “initiative” to ring the doorbell.

A saying I’ve always liked is, “Ask, and ye shall receive”.

Excellent, down to earth, real report. I suspect you’re right about alot of things! Keep the good stuff coming Michael. I always read your emails (and that’s saying alot these days…).

  9. Liviu Says:

You demonstrate that you care about those involved in internet Marketing.
Your report is of a great value and help for realizing where a marketeer stands and how to take a decision to success.
I am in “The Other” pushing toward “The Outer Circle” and even further.
    Thank you

  10. Michael Says:

Michael, the first contact I ever had with the whole internet marketing “circus” was with you. Since then I have joined an awful lot of lists, bought a few products which I consider to be essential tools and am using daily (SEO Elite for example) and suffered total information overload like everyone else and so have started unsubscribing back to a few trusted sources of info. This is an excellent report. You have really hit the nail on the head! Now I feel as if I have come full circle after going through a massive learning/reading curve and I’m back here being inspired by Michael Cheney again. Thankyou

  11. John Says:

Not at all what I expected. Nothing I haven’t read before. It’s only confirmed what I had already thought. I’m happy to have gotten it for free.

Michael, particularly liked the Marketers Matrix. Sometimes, it takes hearing things , many times in many ways for messages to sink in. We appreciate you sharing your story with us to illustrate the different points. Thanks for keeping it real!

    Great info!

  14. Harry Says:

Yes a good report, sorry to be just a little negative but I read it all before in the INNER CIRCLE. I have been bashing away for five years trying to get where I know I can get because I once did it offline, every so often I have to virtually wipe my PC clean because its full of stuff that is supposed to make me rich. I know I should not buy some of the stuff, but like you say, you think maybe this is the one. The website above is not yet fully up and running, (I have lots more) but this one is my last big throw.
Thank you for the report, I read and studied it mainly because at last a Brit with something to say. I am not anti any country but it is time for us Brits to get in on the act!!

  15. Glenn Petschulat Says:

    Hello Michael,
This is my second attempt at your blog. The first time I hit the wrong button somewhere and ended up in cyberspace somewhere. I’ll make this one short. THANK YOU for the report, I needed that. Even as I write this blog, I feel my mindset returning from the Outer limits, as it were, and I am changing my focus as I write. My financial problems got in the way of common sense and I lost direction for a while. Again, Thanks Michael, we’ll talk again soon.
    Sincerely,
    Glenn

  16. Mike Says:

    Hi Micheal,

Excellent report, I particularly like the the section dealing with “The ability and willingness to take action is right up there for me alongside commitment and experience.”

I think far to many people talk the talk but never make the walk, this business is like any other “what you put in you get out” - I myself am fed up with all the “quick get rich” plans nad the fact that a lot of people seem to fall the hype.

Anyway enough of that, thanks for a great report and the fact that you gave it away for free, hopefully it will assist many people and point them in a focused direction.

    Cheers

  17. Janet Dunmore Says:

    Hi Michael

Really enjoyed reading your report. I can totally identify with your friend, I have found myself becoming a super-consumer and using study to not take action until last week. I have now started to become more focused on working towards my goals and have been setting up affiliate sales pages and adwords campaigns, (baby steps). I am now actually starting to feel like a marketer instead of a student and am working towards my goal of earning enough money to be able to create a niche product that I have in mind. I know I have all the knowledge to do this.

Your comments about getting out to seminars and networking were spot on. I was at the World Internet Summit event in Wembley in June and found myself talking to Sylvie and Michael Fortin the first evening and then the second one, drinking a glass of red wine with Ted Ciuba. The tips and insights you can glean from these people are well worth the admittance fee. I would also like to thank you for the things you clarified for me at the Yanik Silver conference in September.

These are the only 2 events I have attended but both times have come away with some useful information and have been further inspired to continue by other peoples success.

    Keep up the good work
    Regards Jan

  21. Ling Says:

I’m part of “the others” and have attempted to be a part of the outer circles in the past few months with little success. But that wont be stopping me to keep trying to break in :)

  22. Bruce Says:

    Hello Michael,

It was very interesting to note that you used the terms “task”, “goal” and “vision” to point out what many advisors MEAN to say and what many, many people HEAR when advised to set goals. As I see it, the goal coaches mean what you call vision, and too many of us hear what you call either tasks or goals, thus falling far short of attaining what we really want.

The earlier comment about needing to hear ideas stated in several ways in order to hear what is really meant is dead on!

    Bruce

  23. Wizzer Says:

    Hi Michael

I think the whole issue is MORE complicated. You can be extremely focused on something for a while and then lose focus - so a person doesn’t necessarily sit in any one of the circles all of the time. Some time ago I really wanted a TVR (Sports Car) and focused all of my thoughts on that car. Sure enough I found myself taking action on this automatically that moved me towards my goal until it became reality. Then I’d lost focus on achieving - I was enjoying.

In business you need to keep taking action and keep moving forward. Too many people treat this “internet thing” as a hobby but expect real business results without doing what has to be done.

    Great piece of work, Michael

    Spot on Michael,
I must admit to having been a permanewb for around 5 years, and only recently have I started to move into the outer circle….but what a difference that has made - taking action!.
Everything you’ve said in the report makes so much sense….. Alas - I believe that only a small percentage of the people who read it will be influenced to actually ‘Act’ on it —- That said, They are the ones who will be grateful for the ‘kick up the b’side’ and will thank you immensley in the long term!
Ok - off to take some action ;-)

  27. Terry Stillman Says:

Hi well what do you know,

Just take a look at the time of all the previous messages to this.

Have’nt they got a bed to go to.

If you really want to get into this Michael I suggest you read the Attractor Factor by Joe Vitale.

Although you say that you are not in the Millionaire Markets Club, then tell me why you are singing their song for them. You may say because it pays and it does not, only to the select few who will kiss their backsides.

I am Brit and not ashamed of it, so where does that leave me, out in the cold blue circle, hey I like it out here, I do not kiss butt.

Thank you very much for sending one more distraction to start my day off, and in a minute I will move on to the next one, called work. Been online since 1998, but last month I took it all down, because of the way it has been progressing, I hate squeeze pages.

I am a 60 year old copywriter with a degree in marketing, and I have had several businesses, but I have no money despite that, and I live on an ordinary street, in an ordinary house.

I am not ordinary and neither is anyone you are writing to or contacting, we all are above average or you would not be on the internet at all.

If anyone categories you by saying you are average, they personally will not think they are average, so it is a put down, so don’t be average be above average until you hit outstanding, now I did not need any american to tell me that.

Most of them are trying to sell the Dream, great, but all they really give us are the snoring instructions and distraction after distraction to stop you achieving what you know you can or slow you down, so that they can win a race which is not real.

Take your time, do it right, do it once at your own pace, then blast it out, a steam roller does not take much notice of bugs crossing the road or on the windscreen.

I like americans, but not bigheads, The fox can chase after the rabbit but he may never catch it for the rabbit runs for his life and the fox is just hungry. So the rabbit slings the fox a carrot, and he dont run so fast, but the rabbit does.

So it don’t matter if your a rabbit or a bulldog, You Know You Will Win In The End because we always do. So I do not get into a sweat and start panicking to get online and neither should anyone else.

The fastest thing to get right, is doing it wrong.

Well I have had my morning rant so bye for now,

    Enjoy
    Terry

  28. Davin Says:

Well it’s really is words like that said that really keep me going, Micheal.
I’m really starting to be able to distinguish the difference between marketers that are sincere and trying to help, and well some of the others.
What I’m really excited about, is I’m finally starting to speak back and forth with a few of these marketers, and what i’m most happy about is. Hey, they are real people, just like me, though catapulted to near rockstar status in the world of internet marketing. They started the same, as you did too, and I’m realizing more all the time, that it is not only possible, but I will get there. You really inspire me, I thought it was a great touch when you sent out a webcam presentation, about The Death of Internet Marketing. Keep up the good work. You help me to “Believe”, not only in the dream but in myself as well. Thanx for that, Davin

  29. Reg Warden Says:

    Hi Michael,
Thanks for your excellent report. It really brings home facts which people need to know if they are to be a success on line. One of the main difficulties on line is the amount of information overload which is continuously posted on the www.
Several of the factors set out are not easy to achieve but are essential for success. As you point out FOCUS is so important and not being diverted by the tremendous amount of rubbish which comes into our mail boxes on a daily basis.
Thanks once again for your valuable report.
    Best regards,
    Reg Warden

    Hey Michael,

    Nice work on this report!

It was an honor to join you in the ‘Internet Marketing Country Club’ in Vegas last weekend.

You are absolutely right about a lot of things, including the vision, networking, personal relationships as well as the drive, focus and ability to take action.

Last weekend was an eye-opener for me as well, and I spent the days immediately after I went home working on my product.

I’m glad to see that the event gave you the inspiration to create this report.

Now that we have met, don’t be surprised if I come to you for help every so often! But darn it, I can’t believe I missed the chance to hear your fire walk story in person…

    Oh well, next time! =)

Keep up the great work, Michael! Talk soon…

    Thanks, Si

  31. Penny Says:

    Hi Michael,

A great report, thanks very much. I fit into a number of different circles, but will now aim for the inner circle and start working for it immediately.

Have spent the last 3 months gathering information from every where and now find I have so many offers and emails daily that I spent three quarters of the day reading emails.

Your report has prompted this reply and I will later tonight start removing myself from many email lists.

From having no idea about the internet business 3 months ago, I have now gained a lot of knowledge and can now decide whose information, services and products I will use.

Will also develop my own products and promote them in conjuction with reports like yours.

Thanks again for this report and other information I have received from you.

    Best wishes,

    Penny
PS - you will definately not be removed from my incomming email list!

  33. Simon Strutt Says:

    Michael,

    Great stuff as always!

Thank you - I for one have benefitted from your products, e-mails and videos over the last year and always highly recommend them. My new list is becoming quite substantial and I plan to guide them down the “Michael Cheney Route” very soon….

    Kind regards,

    Hi Michael,

I really think you’ve hit the nail on the head with this report.

The biggest obstacles to success online are self-limiting belief’s, a haphazard approach to creating a business, a lack of focus and not leveraging other people and services to grow. Your report has really reinforced all of these points for me and I hope to (no I will ;-) start doing all the things you preach.

After following your videos in ‘11 Days to List Profits’ I started to respect you.
After listening to your interviews and reading all the stuff you provided there… More respect.
Mate, you have surpassed my expectations - this report is amazing.
I don’t know if it is the way you tell it or what you are telling but it really does seem to work for me.
You forced me to build a list… This report really does make you get a hold of yourself and make you get up off your **** and go out and do what you are ‘thinking’ you should do.
Seriously this is a highly recommended read for anyone who wants to make something online.
I’ve been at it for years, a little bit here, loads there, a little bit more. Now I am actually doing it.
I too have heard it all before. How many times do you hear that?
    “I’ve heard it all before”
Dude, we’ve all heard it all before, however, this needed telling. This time, for some reason I am listening. It actually makes sense.
Thanks Michael (or Mr Cheney as you shall be forever known as)

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for giving me the oppotunity to read your report for free. I suppose you could have charged for this report because it is loaded with a bunch of information that makes you think. I just want to say i am in the others category at the moment but I will make that change toward the inner circle. I really liked how you broke the marketrs matrix to success down. it really makes me want to achieve more than what I am doing on the net right now. I have been getting alot of emails and a lot information on various products and getting different ideas of deciding what product to do or promote. It does get quite over whelming when you are in that others category because you just have to decide what you are going to do or promote and do it. I just want to say thanks again for the wonderful information. I am going to start applying them so that my marketing can become a success.

    best wishes,

    Hi Michael

Great report! I would say that I would fall into the “outer Circle” category. I am mainly focused but I do get easily distracted particularly with all the new products that are thrown at us each day!

I like the term “permanewb” and looking back I was definately one of them for a good 2 years. I am glad to say that I have moved on and taken action. I am trying to remain more focused but can always improve there.
Thanks for a great report and I look forward to meeting you in the near future.

  45. Michael Says:

    Hi Michael
    Great stuff
I’m a Permanewb, I have spent so much time taking in information and then woundering whether or not I should then buy this geatest of products, which, is going to make me rich. I have gone on to purchase many of these products and consumed them to a state of mental overload.
Your perfectly right when you say that we have to start a course of action in one direction, and finish it. This I have found very easy to do within conventional business, but on the internet it seems to be differnet.
What you are saying about networking and meeting people face to face has to be the answer, because this is how convential business works.
The problem is for a newcomer like myself, you feel that you have nothing to offer as well as non of your own products, which makes it hard to network or meet people.
Its also a lonely existence, has you rightly say looking at your PC all day long trying to come up with ideas. The longer you do this the harder it becomes.
So your absolutely spot on, what I need is no more information right now. I need to start a course of action and finish it. I need to make some contacts, and I have to establish a niche product then I have something to communicate about. I’ll get started.

In ending I would like to thank you for this report. Its comforting to know we have someone in whom we can trust.

    Best Regards

    Michael

  46. Ron Says:

    Hi Michael,
    Nice report.
Knew it already of course, but then….

I’d like to say that motivation, by itself, is not enough.
You could be motivated to start walking, but without knowing how to walk, and in which direction, you won’t get very far.
    So…
I’m an (ex) electronic and software engineer.
I can make web sites like there’s no tomorrow - no problem.

    But products?
What are we talking about here, actual physical items?
Or, as I seem to gather from the internet marketing chaps like yourself, sell reports on how to sell on the internet?

Now this is not a moan, it’s an engineer really asking.

Chose anything but make it a niche market.
    Yep, fine.
Do I just find a source of size 3 fish hooks (whatever they are) and make a web site, then drive customers to it?
    Is that really it?

Please, I’m rearing to go, but haven’t got an actual direction.
I need a heading to steer, then I can harden the sheets in and get sailing.

    All the best,
    Ron

I read “The Death of Internet Marketing” yesterday and I just finished your report. The two tie in with one another in a way that is very motivationg. Thanks,

  51. Ravi Says:

    Hi Michael,
It is in fact is great. As you had explained it is the mind and the attitude that creates every thing. But you have to keep one thing in mind when it comes to the matter of performance, there are so many gladiators who had been thrown out of the ring due to certain flaws of others and are waiting for a chance to get in to the inner circle. When it happens you will be having the powerful performer on your side. All the best.

  52. The Lawyer Says:

    Hi Michael

This is my personal review of the report

I agree with you when you speak about the different circles in Internet Marketing. I faced it in my video review of The Death Of Internet Marketing written by Mike Filsaime. I was talking about the Inner Circle and how it works.

I have also treated what you call
-Success Factor # 1. Ability To Take Action- in a report and in a video called The Step Before To Take Action.

In this point I don’t agree completely with you, cause you say newbies don’t take action because they often find excuses. Of course the have to start, but they need to be guided and when the lesson is learned then apply it. If they don’t know what to do, they can’t take action. Starting a business online or off line is a process and people before to start have to know very well what they want and how to do it, once it is clear a step by step follow up guide and strategy is needed, adding everyday knowledge to the mind. It’s what I call “Endless Process”. They need to be helped, and I know you know it well cause you have launched two good products specially for newbies.

    Nobody becomes an expert overnight.

All this people belonging to the inner circle have been studying during a long period of time, asking to other more expert people how to do it and all of them have or have had a mentor.

This is the Truth and there is not another one.

If a newbie wants to get the inner circle, or becomes an expert, he has to know that dedication and patient are two very important factors.

What you say about Tony Robbins is right (he is great) you have to look at yourself, identify your goals, and how to achieve them.

I know I’m in the black list of many, many people because I always say the truth. It doesn’t care me, I have my list and they believe in me.

The rest of the report is Right.

This is my personal opinion. I hope not to offend you and you publish it.

P.S. “I’m thinking you were watching my videos or visiting my site or spying me or maybe you are telepathic, cause you have touched many points I teach to people in my list”. I’m Kidding.

    Good report, Congratulations

  54. Jay Couture Says:

I think this report is a very informative, it reminded me of what I was supposed to be doing and what I should keep on doing. Personally I’ve achieved starting & running my own Custom masonry business at the age of 23, did I mention without a drivers license.I’ve put up with quite a bit of b.s. in the past 5 years of my life, but I’ve gone from moving across the country with no money & in a few years time I bought a brand new house. I didn’t do this online but know I am expanding my horizons to the internet in many forms. If you want to succeed you have to definitely picture yourself succeeding & put yourself their for 5 minutes everyday, driving a ferrari, owning a house on the ocean , whatever. This is what has kept me going through the years, and it is not dreaming oyu convince your subconscious that you will be at this place you imagine in a certain time frame. Write down your goals and execute them on a quarterly basis, then up your goals to years and write down where you want to be , Post this list in a easy to read place and read it every day.
I am not an internet guru, but I have been through major adversities & still manage to succeed. Now I’m online & ready to succeed. In months time I’ve learned quite a bit, I used to never be online & now I’m online 12-16 hours a day devising and executing my master plan, I can look at the big picture , Grab it , then rip it off the wall! You need to be aggressive & take action in order to succeed. Network , network , network!

  55. Alan Bagley Says:

    Hi Michael,

thanks for the timely reminders in this report.

The thing that I have learned most from you and Mike Filsaime etc ( the ‘inner circle’) is that you have to work smarter not harder, but you still have to do your ground work, know your ‘area’ and get to know your list.

You mention Tony Robbins in your report, my ‘day’ job, if I can call is that, is to help people to help themselves, to get the motivation and start walking their walk.

Thanks again and keep up the good work.

    Regards
    Alan Bagley

  56. Sandy Hill Says:

I wish I had read this 2 months go when I went online looking for a “real” job but instead kept finding internet opportunity ads that lured me away from persuing the mundane 9 to 5, this is the most you’ll make, no you can’t have tomorrow off type of job. I jumped in with both feet alone since no one I knew had any interest or belief that regular people could make money on line. I haven’t proved them wrong yet since I did all the things Michael talked about that will hold you back. I had the awareness that I was
not moving forward and as Michael put it, my tasks were taking me all day to complete, and they weren’t money generating tasks either. Reading Michaels report, seeing in black and white what changes I had to make, and how diciplined I needed to become when I find myself saying “just one more e-mail then I’ll get right over to that traffic site” … ran out of money, spent all I could afford to the 1st month so my over consuming problem took care of it’self.. Thank you Michael for caring enough about the beginners(I’m erasing newbie from my vocabulary) to take the time to write this report.

  57. Dr. Bobbi Anne White Says:

I liked what you said about the “Big Myth”. It fits like a glove. I do believe you’re right about the human interaction being important. One of the reasons I like video conferences like Bozzo is that it puts a face on events. Keep up the good work Michael. You’re truly inspiring.

  58. Richard Hackworth Says:

Nice pitch for attending live events. Thanks for allowing us to post our links here. Other than that I think that it’s just 44 more pages promoting the “Get rich online hoax”.

  59. Reg Brookhouse Says:

Hi Michael and thankyou for sharing your insights in this free report… I think it is valuable because you hone in on and clarify the things that are important to keep in mind if we are to reach the kind of heights achieved by those of the inner circle of the internet country club… marketing on the internet has often been a frustrating and costly pursuit, yet the dream of elusive riches drives us on despite the disappointments to the point where we can sometimes become cynical, turn off and burn out… your report provides the encouragement of knowing that others have blazed the trail and if someone else has done it than we all can… thanks again for helping us to work smarter in the process of reaching for our place in the country club, cheers, Reg :-)

  60. Sten Says:

    Hi Michael,

Just what I needed — even though this is al lot like what I’m thinking these days myself, and even though I have shifted into “producing” mode, I still need to hear it. Again and again, it seems.

I was also fascinated by you saying that the “inner circle” people are also super-consumers.

But I won’t let that drag me back into consuming-mode. Not now.

    Sincerely,
    Sten

  61. leon Says:

It’s a great report. It tells you “WHAT” you need to be successful. IMHO, most people find it very difficult to succeed in internet marketing because they don’t know “HOW” to do it.

Most of the IM products in the market just tell you “WHAT” to do but not “HOW” to do it. Just a simple example, most ebooks or reports will tell us we need to create our own product. Yes of course we need to create our own product, niche or whatever but how to do it?

There are not many products in the IM world that will “honestly” teach you how to be successful so if you want to be successful in IM, you will need to go through a process. A process of strong determination and hard work to find out exactly how to be successful.

  62. Bill Says:

An old Jewish proverb says, “Never farm the land. Always farm the farmers.” No business on earth more dilligently hues to axiom than internet marketing.

I.M. gurus (self professed or otherwise) mercilessly flog those of us trying to build real Internet marketing business with the “must have’ E book or Video that will catapult us to glory — for only $100.00/$300.00. You guys even push each other’s stuff while you rake off the top 40% to 60%.

Thanks for offering advice for “free,” but I’m waiting for the next e-book/video to drop. Bill

  63. Julia Soliday Says:

Nice to see some useful information coming through from a FREE report. If I had known just how useful this report was, I might even have paid some money for it. Thanks so much..

  64. "Simon The Mentor" Says:

Interesting report, though you can make plenty of money (in excess of $50,000+ a month) without EVER creating or owning your product. Just like I do!

  65. Bruce Says:

Awesome report Michael !!!! Very inspiring and REAL !!! I found it especially “hit home” for me. Thanks, Bruce

  66. Oliver Antosch Says:

Not a bad report but I’m getting tired of phrases like “secrets”, “exposed” and the likes. Plus its very general advice, we could do with more practical advice and new ideas. Networking, finding niches and specializing aren’t really that revolutionary or new ideas.

  67. joe Says:

mr cheney you talk of going to seminars like its cheap and easy.maybe you started out with funds to do this but i do not.i dont work 80 hours a week because i want to , its because i have too.i would love to have the money and time to go to a seminar.i would love to have the capital to buy a learning toturial to really learn how to put this to gether though i doubt i could find any one program that would that. and if i had the money and knowledg i would build a product that would have the squeez page, landing page and front built in,it would have a step by step guid how to market and set the system up.and i wouldnt charge a dime until the product actually started making money!thats a real garenty!and it wouldnt be in internet jargen, and it would be very clear in debt and simplified.thats the product i would like to develope

    Hi Mike,

I read your report and it is bang on. I know I am guilty of not focusing on my projects and getting distracted all of the time. I am really trying hard to focus on my passion which is online video products.

Your report just helped me to understand how to keep on the path and focus on my goals.

Yes, Michael is Scottish. Of course, if the people have their way, the UK may be no more. But that’s aside from the point.

The report is truly excellent. Down to earth and straigher-up. ANy one could understand this. Literally. As Michael knows, I’m 12!

  72. VJ Says:

Fantastic advice! It confirmed the thing that I had just began to realize–take ACTION–it doesn’t have to be perfect but needs to be good.

Also, I was becoming like your friend, a super consumer until I finally realized that I could not study my way to success. I had been working on a product for a while but had no idea how to market it and had pushed it to the back burner–your info has given me the push to get going on it again and I WILL market it.

    Thank you

  73. Barry Sheppard Says:

You are so right of course.
I have been swamped with offers this year and turned my head. Just like looking at a pretty woman. A real head turner.
I decided not so long ago to blank most emails. No fanny here. I chose your 11 days course to start.
I have nearly finished about 25 articles, for my website, which I am going to start driving traffic too, using your course. I am concentrating on adsense
I am a Brummie and if those of us in the UK want to start having a seminar, come throw ideas in a pot, come pick each others brains or even:
Get Micheal to come along and give him a few quid might help us all. Whack up up the exs. I can get a place on a Week evening or Saturday with all that we would need for about £100.
That would include tea or coffee.
And it’s only 3 miles from Junction 4 on the M42. Birmingham is central I think to everyone.
Let’s hear from you. Incidently, I am a published offline author and can teach you to write a book or whatever. I was thinking of charging £500 for the course. But for OUR seminar ZILCH.
That’s part of my whack to the pot.

  77. suzanne Says:

Quite interesting! If this is the way it works then I can see I have a long way to go!Really appréciated the report ,refocussed me on what is really happening out there on the internet maketing business and why and how some make it and some not so good.It helped me to figure out if I got it or don’t to make it a profitable business. Thanks always enjoy your emails.

  78. Timothy Shaw Says:

    Hi Michael,
    November 27th,2006
What a great report and what most people should read before starting to look for a internet business this would give them what it takes to be a internet marketer and not a hobby and then complain about not making any money.

  79. Billy Bristol Says:

    Hi Michael,

I always stop and read every piece of mail I get from you, which is significantly less than others. As I was reading this report, I realized I had made it half the way through your 11 Days to List Profits course and got sidetracked the last week by buying a bunch of other “stuff”.

This will motivate me to get back to work on the one thing I need to work on now, and that is building my list. The next big thing I need to do is start planning my vacations around internet marketing seminars.

At one time I was an active real estate investor with a decent amount of success, then got sidetracked from that. So that locks up my “niche” problem as well. Real estate investing is now my niche from now on, so if you need an expert in that area, I am now it. Thank you for the great report,

    Billy Bristol

  81. Dallas Lyon Says:

    Michael,

Once again it’s been confirmed for me that true success requires personal growth. And part of that growth is ACTION, getting out of the old comfort zone. Growth is never comfortable, and as someone above pointed out, drift is inevitable.

This report gave me a jolt when I thought I was on track; it’s amazing how we attract things we need to keep going sometimes. I have just gotten interested in making money online, and your report made me realize that I have been working on becoming a “permanewb”! But no longer.

I would love to meet you sometime and talk about this more; look for me at one of those “unofficial gatherings” one of these days!

Nice easy read (I like that!), and a lot of food for thought – or should that be action! I once heard a fella say that if you always do what you’ve always done, then you’ll always get what you’ve always got. Hmm! It’s time for a little attitude adjustment, maybe that’ll swing things around in the right direction!

Thanks for the report Michael, glad I read it.

  86. tuxish Says:

  87. Alan Richardson Says:

    Hey Michael,

After reading your book I realised that I am(was) one of the shoppers buying product x and product y.A permanewb as you so eloquently put it.

Now, though I know it is time to go for that next level.

As Randy Smith states, the proverbial kick up the b**kside is sometimes needed and people like you are great role models to give it.

    Excellent report,
    Alan Richardson

  88. Eric Holmlund Says:

    Hey Michael

It was great to meet you at the inner circle in Vegas.

Congratulations on writing a great report!

You did touch on it in your report, and I think its important to distinguish that you don’t have to become a part of our “clique” just to be a successful internet marketer. There are plenty of successful internet marketers (those you would consider to be in the inner circle) that nobody has heard of. I was a successful internet marketer before I was invited to the “country club” and there are plenty of successful internet marketers who are not in the club. Heck, I didn’t have a clue who half of the people were in the room at our meeting, and they probably didn’t know who I was either.

I think you hit the nail on the head in your observation that VISION is the one distinguishing characteristic that sets these elite marketers apart from the crowd.

If I were to make any criticism of your report, I would add another success factor. I think that in order to be a successful internet marketer, you have to be a good MARKETER…period. So people need to learn sales and marketing and do what it takes to make themselves into marketers.

The success factor might be called “Skill Sets” and would include sales, marketing, business management, etc.

Hope to see you again soon!

    Eric

  92. Brian Cotsen Says:

    Hello Again Michael

Your report made interesting reading, again!

As you know, but for anyone else reading this, I have been taking a great interest in your ‘Marketing’ methods and putting them into good use on my own website.

For Those who run businesses that are not wholly about website, web selling or internet marketing, like mine is, you may find it interesting hearing what a regular entrepreneur who runs a business and uses the internet to build their sector of the market and also increase their earnings does with your useful, practical guides and information.

For those who are new to all of this let me just say that it isn’t all about

    * Overnight wealth and success - you really have to work hard to make your website earn it’s keep.

    * You need to commit to it for the long term, not just as a weekend project or this months entertainment.

    * You need to take ‘Good’ advice - Take note about this one…. the other two points are wasted if you take the wrong turning and loose your way.

So I recommend that you read Michael’s report, follow through with his good advice and start your journey off towards your end goal.

    When will you get there?

Well that’s all down to you…. hare or tortoise? both can reach their goal….

If you want to see evidence that others DO take note and put into action Michael’s and others advice then take a look at my website for proof. I have seen massive increases in my Adsense, affiliate and core business sales as a result of using some very simple techniques.

    Thanks Michael

  93. Tom Matthews Says:

    Michael -

Great job! I have been trying to formulate a similar message from the beginner’s perspective (being the newbie but NOT a Permanewb). One thought though, there is a difference from actually being new and financially less stable and being stuck on “lack of funds” as a mindset. The Inner Circle marketers have the luxury of spending as they simple have the advantage of having the funds. The newbie probably does not.

Aside from that small point, I agree wholeheartedly!!!

  94. David Says:

Michael. this report is excellent. I am one of the (other). I have the right
attitude. But i need time to and a better website to create wealth. I am goal oriented, and task oriented. And the thing is, I know what i need to do. Which is to be focus on where I want to be in the future.
    Thanks for a valuable report.
    Best regards
    David

  95. Jem Meades Says:

    Hi Michael

You’re sooo right! There were times when I was a super-consumer and had no focus. In recent weeks it would have been very easy to be distracted by all the latest hot deals guaranteeing super wealth. But I figured a while back that it was no use reading about it and learning everything there was to know without putting it into action.

So, I’m building my site, writing articles and trying to get my name out there. It’s not easy and I could easily become distracted. But hey, I have a plan and that brings me back on track. I’ll read your report again to support me, to keep me focussed ‘cos I know I’ll drift.

Which brings me to the point I wanted to make. Everything you say is right but you also need one more ingredient which can be pretty difficult and tough to admit - you need to know yourself, your character, so you can guard against your negative traits and push your positive - some people find that easy but some don’t.

So, great report, well worth the read - keep up the good work!

    Regards,

    Jem Meades

  96. Tammie Manis Says:

    Michael,

It goes without saying..but BRAVO! Thank you for having the “guts” to get us this information. Loved the report. As I was reading I caught several glimpses of myself. Worms, sky and stars..oh my! Seriously, I thought the report was outstanding and informative. I am sure it will help lot’s of people provided of course they get off their butt. I have some traits of a permnewbie..but for the most part..I am in the middle group (no not the middle..middle)..However where I want to be is in the elite group and you gave me some great sugguestions. I thank you, as well as internet marketers everywhere.

  97. Paul Duxbury Says:

    Michael

You are spot on with your clear focus on the need to have a clear vision. A vision which you can taste, feel, see, smell and move towards on a daily basis. It’s what I spend a lot of my time coaching people to do so I couldn’t fail to agree with you!

It’s interesting that I managed to get a copy of your report because I unsubcribed from so many lists because of the deluge of promotional emails! Somehow I must have stayed on one of your lists and I will say that I am glad I did!

That house in the header looks familiar - somewhere in Lancashire?

    Take care

Very well written report with no “geek” words that a computer illiterate (like myself) can understand.

However I have one question - can you explain how to get your OWN product?

I am a distributor for two companies in which I have complete faith, but whilst promoting their products I would like to discover a product of my own. Have you any advice?

  100. robert Says:

I thought the report was ok,but anyone who has been on the internet for any length of time has probably had this information in various form several times.
So nothing new but worth a read anyway

  101. Sherry Says:

    Hi Michael,

I am really a Permanewb! I am struggling to retire and am determined to make something work on the net to supplement my income and provide me with the lifestyle I want for myself and my family.

My biggest problem is that I truly have NO idea what it is I want to do. That compounded with the fact that I am not extremely computer literate (I can do wonders with specific programs at my 9 to 5), but put me on the net and start talking about autoresponders, and safe lists and opt in lists, and branding books, etc. and I get a hugh headache.

Your article was written for me. I have purchased everything out there hoping “this one will be it!”. I guess I just really have a whole lot to learn, but admittedly am not a patient person.

At any rate, thank you for the article. I will do my best to follow your advice. Do you think there is hope for me? (I sure hope so… I want SOOO bad to quit my job!)

    Regards,
    Sherry Kinkade

  102. mick Says:

Agree with what is the core of the report- stop reading and start acting. I’ve been cancelling slews of newsletter subscriptions for the last week, and have much more time and focus now I’m not distracted by endless offers for needless junk.

  103. Graham Kelly Says:

    Michael,
Great report (despite some typos which I could have fixed for you prior to publication - see website!) I’m certainly in the ‘others’ area presently but WILL change that, and shortly. Unlike a lot of people who are trying to give up the day job and get into IM so they can work from home, spend quality time with family etc, I have been doing that for 20 years working as a video producer and media training consultant. I have shunned growth and am still not certain I want to travel down that path. I just know that over the next two months I have some time to consider all this and act accordingly as my ‘real’ business slows at Xmas time.

I have been considering looking at the media training niche as I am expert in that area but it’s a smaller niche and a business one. Would you advise me going down that path? My other area of expertise of course is corporate video production??

  104. Stephen W. Jarboe Says:

    Mr. Chaney
Someday I hope to speak to you personally and perhaps to shake hands. After reading your IM Country Club report I realized I am becoming both a Super-Consumer and a permanewb. I don’t know if I am scared to reconnect with the world or myself, but this report has inspired me. I used to be a supervisor in the Navy and an instructor. I think I may have lost faith in myself, but your view has got me to thinking I can do this. And will.

    Thanks….

  105. Brian Says:

Excellent Report. I decided some time ago that I should attend at least one seminar for the reasons you so clearly set out. Unfortunately, to date, I haven’t been able to scare up enough money to cover the cost of attending one.

  106. Dee Priebe Says:

Hi Mike, good stuff. I didn’t like your comparison of the “haves” and the “have nots”. Guess why:-)

The hardest thing for me has been to find that niche. I seem to go to broad and general. Something I am going to work on.

    Thanks a ton.

  108. TJ Short Says:

I am currently trying to implement the secret which seems similar or is based on a similar principal. I am still in the others section though am trying to break into the inner section. Michael,

    Spot on!

Stephen Covey said, “To make a Quantum leap in your business or results, you have to make a paradigm shift.”
    (Think differently about something)

Your report certainly does that and even with with my extensive off line experience I made a couple of paradigm shifts as I read the report.

    Well done!!

  111. Frank Bauer Says:

    Hi Michael,

Very good written… I feel like I just read “The Death Of Internet Marketing Part 2″… which is by the way a good thing. :)

Where am I? Inner, outer or other? Hmmm. My gut feeling when starting to read about it told me I am in the “Outer Circle”.

Then I saw your first “Have” & “Have-not” chart… and when I honestly answered the questions for myself, I just got 2 out of 6 “Yes”… maybe I belong more to “The Others”???

Well, that concerned mme only shorly as I read on… and got to your “The Marketers’ Matrix of Success”.

3x “The Other” and 5x “Outer Circle”… well, at least the tendency is ok. ;)

What your report really did is to open my eyes to what areas need the most improvement. And that is great.

    Thank you Michel!

This is the best and most insightful vision of the big picture of the internet that i have seen anywhere. As a page turner product the major moves yet they need to be minor shifts in thought. I know I can …I know I can. You are to be highly commended for your work here!

  113. Derek Jones Says:

    Hi Michael,
Only recently joined the happy band of Internet Marketers and have found the going tough in sorting out the wheat from the chaff.
An excellent report which really applies to life in general, but particulary in a business environment.
I am in the Outer circle at present, but I have the vision to achieve access to the Inner Circle in the not too distant future. Your report will become a cornerstone of what I will teach to other Newbies starting out.

    Superb

Hey Michael, thanks for the sobering report - just what a lot of us needed!

  115. Mentor Alan Says:

    Hi Michael,

I enjoyed your article. Unfortunately it’s promoted as another web wonder, but then I suppose it has to be to compete for attention!

The information is a very good reality check for web busisness and life in general. If we want to achieve it takes planning, focus, commitment and persistance and a healthy dose of reality check to put things into perspective.

I feel this article and others like it will help re-inforce ethics in business and propogate the old saying that “you should treat people as you would like to be treated”

    Well done.

    Hi Michael

    Thanks for a great report.

To me honest with you, for me there was nothing new under the sun… and yet, everything was new.
I mean, I pretty much knew all that you wrote, I think that most of us do, but actually Being TOLD how things work and what I need to do to get there is absolutely great, and important if I whant to succeed both in business and i life.
Your report is a massive motivator and really put things in perspective.
I know a lot about Anthony Robbins and the entire “taking the first step into action” philosophy… but knowledge is nothing if it is not applied.

    Thanks.

  118. Roy Carter Says:

    Hi Michael

I was at the World Internet Summit event in Wembley, and that was the only event I have attended this year. The reason I only attend one a year?

So that I can go home and APPLY what i’ve learnt before moving on. I confess that I bought “11 Days To List Profits” but only because I needed to add that knowledge to my armoury. I have now got a squeeze page up that I am delighted with, for one of my sites and will be adding them to my other sites soon.

I think the main message that came across to me from your reporte is to gain knowledge and then make sure you take ACTION and APPLY that knowledge.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Michael,

Thanks again for making us think - I rather liked Franks comment about this being the death of IM2, the beginning of your report made me think of that too..

I loved the matrix and the concept - it applies to the rest of life as well as IM doesn’t it?

The Application of Knowledge is Power - cool way to put it. Definitely fits in with the way the wife & I have been trying to work recently so I’m not going to say I can meet you there in the inner circle Mike, but some day I will see you there…

    In the meantime, Take Care,
    Dave

  121. Keith Says:

    Hello Michael,

Excellent report, spot on. I really liked the Marketers Matrix. Although I’ve seen and heard this information before, it wasn’t presented in quite this way. As we all know, it’s all in the presentation.

I’m personally in the outer circle, but am working my way in.

    Thanks for a great report.

  122. Charles Brown Says:

    Spot on, Michael!
Very timely article in my life, as I just finished (mostly) a website that’s practically devoted to the subject of “The Internet Marketing Country Club Report.”

I say, “practically devoted to the subject” because my website has one glaring omission–networking. Which is why I’m currently smack dab in the middle of the “Outer Circle”…having achieved sustainable income but lagging behind the inner circle ’super-gurus.’

Anyway, I thought it interesting (telling!) how you had muliple typos in the report…which is testimony that it’s far better to “finish something good today rather than perfect tomorrow” (or whatever the phrase was ;) . It’s telling because I can envision myself attempting the same report but editing it as I wrote it (never do this, of course!) and–in the process–not covering nearly so well the points that you did.

I thought I’d written a fairly comprehensive report on my website entitled, “The Sobering Truth” (http://www.honestysellsbest.com/The_Sobering_Truth.html) That is, until I read your outstanding report.

Outstanding! Outstanding! and Bravo, Mr. Cheney!!

Bravo, Michael, Well done indeed and how true!!!

WOW. Michael, you laid open my soul. Not only am I a permanewb in internet marketing world, but I would also qualify in the Biz Op world. My first “large” purchase was attending a 15k per person seminar put on by Jay Abraham in 1990. I did go on to make many times that from the info I learned, but I would always get comfortable and never put the effort into taking on more overhead, hiring staff, etc and move into the inner circle.

I have to hold the record as a super consumer. It’s amazing how your well written report gave me a new understanding of what I considered to be a “hobby”. The internet just made it much easier to feed my habit of buying information products.

At the risk of sounding cliche, I will tell you that your report has changed my life. I am ready to single out a niche from all of the general knowledge I have purchased and get started, again!

Tell your friends in the inner circle to save me a spot. :)

    Thanks

P.S. I can’t really afford the time to read all these reports, just two Mike’s is alot.

  129. Debbie Preston Says:

I thought your report was really interesting and well put…it took me a while to figure where it was heading at first. Wish I’d heard most of that 3 yrs ago, but I didn’t so it forced me to learn. New people coming into any internet business can’t walk in and make a million without knowing what they are doing. The main part of this IS taught by the “gurus”, which kind of is a slap to those who have been successful. Some label themselves GURUS that haven’t got as much knowledge as I do, so I’m just defending those who’ve honestly helped me. It hasn’t all been action, because some of my ACTION without knowledge got me into some messes that I had to get out of by learning.

Maybe I’m STILL an idiot, but I don’t feel like a “Newbie” or the “outer circle”, since I’ve spent thousands taking course after course..I feel more like I’m heading towards a PhD! :) Also I know I’m not yet in that “inner circle” of pros that work very hard to come up with these great plans. They let loose all at one time which can be/IS mind boggling, too much at times, but I’d love to be smart enough to pull off one of their deals.

Still I don’t let their success intimidate me because I know, with ACTION, I will be able to match their deals someday. Without those years of learning, it would never be possible on a long term basis.

My FAULT: I’ve allowed fear of failure get in my way in the beinning, and now I’m full of belief and passion, but am allowing the overload of info get me slowed down. Rather than stop reading it and move forward on what I DO know I always fear some new technology will be announced that I’ll need, so I read on and let my projects sit. My biggest concern is the Internet Marketing business losing it’s reputation because it’s hitting so many people really hard, with info overload, leading them off the track of where they were heading, etc.

Just as an example, for my dream to become reality, my 10+ “Ageless” businesses all have to come together and be working together, to make the huge boom I want it to do. But, it’s slowed down by reading the daily offers of other information that really has nothing to do with my business. If I’d stop reading and buying those offers, then I’d be better able to put things online and on autopilot so I can do my 2nd love, TRAVEL and travel writing. My example is about the writing, as I sent for info on a travel writing course and received 100 offers on COPYwriting.. the $$$ mentioned made my mouth water, for COPYwriters. That wasn’t at all what I wanted to do, but now, I’m so far in debt to all of these “got to have” offers, and heading away from my original goal, it’s hurt my schedule. the NEW people are going to be saturated with all of these similar offers all being released at one time, I’m afraid they will, as well as doubt their own original ideas. They will switch their path to try out what SAYS will make them rich. This isn’t for everyone but everyone we wanted as OUR clients, will know all about the “inside” of marketing, when we need them as clients for their other ideas. Did that make sense? I know what I’m trying to say.. but may not be hitting the target with my words. In other words, maybe the pros or “gurus” shouldn’t target people who didn’t plan or WANT to get into marketing, OR lead people with a different desire or huge idea to the area they need to be, not turn MORE into internet marketers saying “THIS IS YOUR PRODUCT”. They then wish to make money so bad they put their own desire on the back burner, buy THOUSANDS of dollars of the wrong FOR THEM products just to create millions for the pros. Marketers who these people WILL need to promote their ideas leak out all the inside info marketers know and we need these people who should be selling their dog beds or jewelers tools. Did THAT try make my thought any clearer?;) I’m tring.

As far as earning MY respect, I plan to do that with MY idea, and never giving up, not by KNOWING a few millionaires. That’s helpful to get info and share info with but not what will make me rich. I also DO plan to rub shoulders with the elite crowd soon, but I will not feel like I’m the lucky one for getting into their crowd, rather I want them to feel THEY are lucky to get to meet this lady who created her success the hard way. We are all equals, just some started sooner and got there sooner, but in the end, we all slip into our drawers the same way and get them wadded in the same manner… trial and error.

Your article is GOOD and again, I wish I’d heard that long ago, but the big names in Internet Marketing can’t be looked down upon due to success if they truly produce good products. I just wish we all could work together to actually meet the REAL desires of “newbies” wanting to have a home business on the internet”, and then let them come to us as marketers for our ;) expertise!

    Debbie
    “Ageless Enterprises”
    “integrity Internet Marketing”
(all almost ready) I HOPE :)

Good luck to all and keep sharing these thoughts..that is what we need. Ideas are born this way and frustrations can be turned into successes.

  130. Tom Says:

    Michael:

The concept of inner circle being a requirement for success is a bit backwards. Success moves one to the inner circle from the ‘others’, thru the inner cicrle into the bullseye of the very successful marketers.

I recenly decided that I knew enough to do what needed to be done, if I’d only begin to do it. My problem has been with the piddley details concerning website and autoresponder mechanics.

I know that once I do it a few times, I’ll improve and become more rapid in my abilit to put everything together but it’s hard when you’re impatient.

I’m encouraged to find that others have been dithering for years and have finally awakened, just like I have, and now I’ve got to pull ahead of them.

I know that the market is essentially infinite but I want my earned share of it quicker than ever.

Thank you for organizing all the old familiar rules into a more palatable dish for our consumption.

I cannot get on with MLM actively HATE it. have had no succes with OLivers training on ebay or Andrew Reynolds I have spent THOUSANDS on books and DVDS and really do not know what to do next expect give up completely. I have to support a disabled husband and really NEED to work from home but cannot seem to get the hang of anything, I am broke and having to sell my car to pay of my youngest daughters debts who has been let down by a boy friend. She has a 7 month old baby and he ran off emptied their account and left her with £3000 of debt - rent and bills not paid. I do not know where to turn really!

  135. Joel Comm Says:

Brilliant, Michael! I wish I had written it. :-)

Time and time again, I tell people they must focus on what they are good at, set their sites on a goal and build a network of others whom they can work with to achieve these goals.

I’m also a huge proponent of attending seminars because I have personally experienced the benefit of doing so. It is where the real action takes place! In fact, attending Yanik’s seminar in D.C. last March led to a contact that has since been worth six figures to me.

I think some people try too hard to break into the “Inner Circle”, when they should be focusing on creating a quality product and learning how to bring it to market effectively. In fact, I think most Inner Circle marketers didn’t have their eyes set on getting in to any kind of “club”. Instead, they found something they were passionate about, focused on creating a quality product or service, and applied what they had learned to bring it to market.

The Inner Circle is not the goal. If you do what you do well, it is a natural byproduct of the true goal… your success.

Figure out what you are good at. Focus. Take action. Don’t give up. Those are the keys to the kingdom.

Excellent work, Michael. I hope people take it to heart :-)

  136. Don Hill Says:

    Michael,

I only came to know of you recently (in the last several weeks), yet I would swear that you are Napoleon Hill reincarnated! Through your writing of this report and other works I have seen of yours, I understand why you have become so successful -you have the ability to relate concepts clearly and succinctly, and to really “speak” to people through the written word.

I would have to count myself among those who claim to be on the cusp of “others” and the “outer circle,” but with your reaffirmation of things I had already learned long ago and the clarity of how to apply the principles once again, I already feel a shift in my attitudinal position towards the “inner circle.” The “Marketer’s Matrix” certainly helped me identify the areas in which I need improvement, and is an invaluable self-assessment tool.

I have been a “cheapskate PermanewB” in that I have in the past scoured the internet for “free” advice and reports. That will change now.

Thank you for publishing this report. I intend to recommend it to everyone I know because as President Kennedy once said, “a rising tide lifts all ships.”

Great distinction of the inner circle, outer circle, and “the others”.

It wasn’t until I got away from sitting behind my computer and going out to live events that my business skyrocketed.

Even though this is “internet marketing”, it really is a people business, and the important thing is to keep in mind the relationships you create with those partners, prospects, and customers… online and offline.
